Constructed: Originally built in 1940 as a 32-bed facility. MGH has expanded in 1945, 1960, 1969 and 1989. Currently maintains 60-beds in operation.
Aging Building: After nearly seven decades of care delivered at the 1115 Avenue G location, MGH’s mechanical, electrical and plumbing systems are failing requiring constant upkeep and repairs (and soon will require an extremely lengthy and expensive replacement process).
Responding to Growth: Currently, outpatient areas such as the Emergency Department and Surgical Services are undersized. With the future growth of the County, these problems will only worsen.
Efficiency Issues: With five previous construction periods, MGH has been cobbled together through the years. This present layout has led to operational inefficiencies such as difficult patient flow, undesirable departmental adjacencies leading to decreased productivity, and high operating and maintenance costs.
Consumer Expectations: Today’s consumers are expecting shorter wait times, enhanced security, private patient rooms, and family friendly and patient centered care.
Competition: Major hospital construction projects are planned, underway or completed in every neighboring county. Retention and growth of MGH market share will be difficult without significant investment into our infrastructure needs. |
